Ocean First Institute offers youth research expeditions that bring teens out of the classrooms and into the field. Alongside shark expert, Dr. Mikki McComb-Kobza, students perform hands-on research such as loggerhead turtle nesting data collecting and shark tagging and measuring.

Students are exposed to the rigors and rewards of field science and experience face-to-face interactions with some of the most iconic marine life. Through these youth travel programs, students learn life lessons and become prepared for future study and potential science careers.

Visit Ocean First Institute’s website for information about upcoming expeditions.

Notes From the Field: Florida Expedition 2019:

In a truly incredible trip to South Florida, OFI's ED Dr. Mikki and Advisory Board Member Dr. Lindsey Dougherty traveled with a group of 12 students on a research expedition to study sea turtles and sharks. They had the unique opportunity to see a loggerhead sea turtle nest along a moonlit beach, release hatchlings into the sea, tag a beautiful tiger shark, and experience the amazing underwater world. We love that we were able to share in this life changing opportunity for our students!
