Meet Your Teacher, Leandra!

By OceanFirst on 10/17/17

Leandra has been with us since the summer and has proven to be a great asset to the team. Growing up in Maryland she was raised on sailboats and paddle boards and was part of a unique open water swim team know as the river league. She knows a plethora of fun facts so make sure to ask her one next time you see her! Here are some questions we asked Leandra to get to know her better. unnamed.jpg
What was your first experience in the water?
My first experience in the water was at my neighborhood's "pond". It is a man-made swimming area with a sand bottom that is fed from an underground artisan well. Chlorine is added to keep it clean. I went through years of swim team there.
What else do you love to do in the water?
I love to paddle board and kayak! Really, I enjoy anything active in the water.
What is your favorite thing about teaching?
All the funny stories from the kids!
Who is your biggest role model?
Kinda cheesy, but honestly my mom! She's so strong and always knows what I need at exactly the right time.
What else do you love to do?
Running and really anything active.
What do you want your legacy to be?
I'd like to find a more sustainable way to live our life. If I could have any legacy it would be one that would improve the world and environment for generations to come. My children and grandchildren should have the opportunity to see the beauty that I see in the world.
If you could do anything in the world, what would you do?
If I could do anything in the world, I would buy every foreclosed home, convert it to 100% environmentally sustainable, then move in any homeless families or struggling families that need a safe place to live. If we take care of people then they will take care of the earth for many more generations to come.
What are you majoring in and what do you want to do with it?
I am a psychology major and I would like to go into the gender and sexuality field.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself!
I just went on my first backpacking trip a couple weeks ago!
