Meet Your Teacher, Shelley!

Shelley began teaching with us at the beginning of 2018 and has quickly become an integral part of the team. With a background in Elementary School Teaching, she has been passionately working with kids for many years, shifting her focus from the classroom to the water. Shelley is kind and patient and we are very lucky to have her on the team! Here are a few questions we asked Shelley to get to know her better:

What was your first experience in the water/water history?

My first experiences with water were boating and playing in lakes and rivers growing up in Basalt, CO. Some of my favorite memories include tubing, water skiing, making mud pies and exploring the outdoors with my family and friends.

Why do you love working with kids?

I love working with kids because its fun! Kids have a way of always finding the light and humor in everyday life! I also love working with kids because of the connections that come from working with them.

What are your biggest passions in life?

My biggest passions are spending time with family and friends and always trying new things! I also love creative writing. I just graduated and so I am still in the process of finding my passions.

What is your degree in, and what do you see yourself doing in the future?

I graduated this spring with a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and my Elementary Teaching License! I hope to have a career working with kids, whether that be in schools or in other areas!

What is your dream job?

My dream job would be to own a program that gives opportunities for kids to learn art, be outdoors, and take care of animals!

Who is your biggest role model?

My biggest role models are my parents. They have always served as amazing supporters of my dreams and I look up to them for everything they do. What has inspired me the most is that they have always taught me to be myself, regardless of what everyone else is doing. This gave me confidence and a willingness to try new paths and to always get back up when I'm down.

What do you want your legacy to be?

I hope to leave behind a legacy of kindness, honesty, and hard work! I hope to leave behind meaningful relationships that brought happiness and support to those that I love.
