Ocean First in Gand Cayman

By OceanFirst on 7/14/16

Gary & his incredible group of travelers recently returned from the beautiful caribbean island of Grand Cayman where each of the divers grew their scuba knowledge and were witness to some wonderful underwater sights. The accommodations at Lighthouse Point were well-enjoyed by the group, from their large condos to their onsite vegetarian-friendly restaurant. The divers didn’t have to go far for a dive fix: the house reef at Lighthouse Point was a fantastic spot for training dives with underwater landmarks and local critters to peer at, and the onsite dive shop had everything needed for day and night dives.

Beyond the house reef, their dives took them to wall dives, underwater arches, and multiple shipwrecks including the Kittiwake Wreck and the Doc Poulson Wreck. One of Grand Cayman's newest underwater attractions, the Guardian of the Reef statue, was another highlight. They encountered a rainbow selection of the Caribbean creatures including nurse sharks, hawksbill and green sea turtles, large groupers, trains of creole wrasse, yellow snappers, and blue chromis. Gary and Bryn took the Cayman Lionfish Culling course and netted six lionfish in two dives. Everyone agreed that it was a trip to remember!

Bryn, one of the participants, had this to say about the trip:

We spent 6 days with the Ocean First team in the Cayman Islands. Gary was our trip leader and was a fantastic buddy, teacher, mentor, and friend. It was an OUTSTANDING trip and something we will always remember. An Ocean First trip is fun for the beginner or the advanced diver and you will meet new friends, have new and unique experiences, and acquire new skills. i would highly recommend one of their trips. if your looking for training to become a first time diver, or you are long time diver who wants to improve your skills, or a pro that wants to add some speciality courses the Ocean First team is for you and Gary is a diving "rock star"
