Ocean First in Curaçao 2015

By OceanFirst on 12/3/15

Our adventurers recently returned from a unique and rewarding Thanksgiving dive trip in Curacao, led by Mr Moustache himself, Bruce Goodwinn. In a scuba-themed twist on the traditional turkey shoot, our divers donned their spears and participated in a lionfish hunt!

During a short classroom session with Lionfish Scuba Dive Experience, the group learned about the destruction that the invasive lionfish causes on caribbean reefs and practiced how to use the spears. In the following days, they removed over 400 (!!) lionfish from the Curacao reefs, which they made into ceviche and grilled fish for their Thanksgiving feast. Not only did the fish taste great, but their removal did a great service to the rest of the reef fish.
